The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) provides accounting and reporting standards, sector guidance, calculation tools, and trainings for business and government. It establishes a comprehensive, global, standardized framework for measuring and managing emissions from private and public sector operations, value chains, products, cities, and policies.
The GHG Protocol also provides webinar, e-learning and in-person training and capacity-building support on its standards and tools. In addition, GHG Protocol offers companies and organizations the opportunity to apply for our “Built on GHG Protocol” mark that recognizes sector guidance, product rules, or tools that are in conformance with GHG Protocol Standards.
The Greenhouse Gas Protocol supplies the world's most widely used greenhouse gas accounting standards.
GHG Protocol standards provide a framework for businesses, governments, and other entities to measure and report their greenhouse gas emissions in ways that support their mission and goals. Their design is driven by generally accepted accounting and reporting principles (Completeness, Accuracy, Consistency, Relevance, and Transparency) and the needs of decision-makers.
In 2016, 92% of Fortune 500 companies responding to the CDP used GHG Protocol directly or indirectly through a program based on GHG Protocol. The popularity of GHG Protocol standards is due in part to the widespread stakeholder outreach and consultation that is facilitated by WRI and WBCSD during each standard development project.
