Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development lays out a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity. At its heart are 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which call for concerted action by the global community — member governments, civil society, private sector and all others — on issues such as poverty, health, education, inequality, economic growth and resource use.

The growing impacts of climate change add urgency to the entire agenda and make solutions more complex. Nonetheless, an integrated strategy that takes the SDGs as its compass can shift the world to a more inclusive, sustainable and resilient path.

WRI champions this integrated approach to global development using data and analysis, technical tools and active engagement with influencers and decision-makers around the world. The recognition that environmental sustainability and improved human well-being are inextricably linked is at the heart of all we do. Indeed, WRI’s mission — “to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment and its capacity to provide for the needs and aspirations of current and future generations” — is fully aligned with the SDGs.

These pages offer readers a look at WRI’s work through an SDG lens. We hope it will be useful to WRI friends, partners and supporters who share our commitment to advancing the SDGs and a creating a greener, fairer world for all people.

As always, I welcome comments and suggestions on how we can improve our work.
