About the Better Buying Lab
Changing what we buy, especially the food we buy, could have big benefits for the world – a fact many consumers are conscious of today. While many people in the United States and the United Kingdom say they prefer to purchase and eat foods with lower environmental impacts, changing behavior is not easy and how we shop for food is a predominantly habitual process.
To solve this problem, the Better Buying Lab cooks up cutting edge strategies to enable consumers to buy and consume more sustainable foods.
Launched in August 2016, the Lab brings together the brightest and best minds from consumer research, behavioral economics and marketing strategy – along with companies in the food industry – to research, test and scale new strategies and plans that help consumers select sustainable foods.
The world’s population is expected to grow to nearly 10 billion people by 2050, requiring 56 percent more food than what’s available today. If we’re to meet the demands of the future, we must develop a sustainable way forward for food production and consumption.
The Better Buying Lab is an initiative of the World Resources Institute, a global research organization that turns big ideas into action to sustain our natural resources – the foundation of economic opportunity and human well-being.
