Value Change: Climate-positive action in corporate value chains
Value chain or “Scope 3” emissions are often the largest source of corporate carbon footprints, yet to date they have been the lowest area of focus for most companies. Many have not yet taken direct action in their value chains due a number of barriers, ranging from uncertainty about who is responsible for these indirect emissions to limited access to supplier emissions data. Others are taking action but have lacked guidance on how to account for the reductions from investments in their supply chains. This has limited the recognition they can receive, thereby reducing their incentives to invest in meaningful change beyond their direct operations. With support from EIT Climate-KIC, Gold Standard, Science Based Targets, Danone, Mars, and Livelihoods Fund, with contributions from additional partners, have developed the Value Change Programme, featuring several practical solutions to remove barriers to addressing value chain emissions, launching at COP24.

Improving Governance Frameworks and Unlocking Ambition with Non-State and Subnational Actors

Land Use: The Untapped Opportunity in Nationally Determined Contributions
Research shows that natural climate solutions, including the restoration and conservation of forests and land, could deliver 37% of the global emissions reduction we need by 2030. Press Conference to Launch Global Report ‘Creating A Sustainable Food Future’
How can we feed the world without destroying it? By 2050, there will be nearly 10 billion people on the planet. As negotiators and leaders gather in Poland for the 24th UN climate change conference, a new report lays out a five-course menu of solutions to ensure we can feed everyone without increasing emissions, fueling deforestation or exacerbating poverty.
The result of six years of research and modeling, the synthesis report of the World Resources Report: Creating a Sustainable Food Future – produced by WRI in partnership with the World Bank, UN Environment, UN Development Programme, and the French agricultural research agencies CIRAD and INRA -- shows there is no silver bullet. We need to produce a lot more crops, meat and milk on the same land; lower food waste and demand for beef and lamb; use innovative technologies to reduce emissions; stop deforestation and restore forests; and much more

Developing countries are at the front line of climate change. Despite this hardship, they are taking actions to achieve resilient development by addressing the nexus of disaster risk, climate change and socio-economic development by using Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). NBS have multiple benefits as buffers from climate-related impacts; resilient water-related services, resource base for important economic sectors such as fisheries and tourism; and can increase the resilience of vulnerable communities through sustainable livelihoods. Driving transformative climate action in cities through financing for sustainable infrastructure
This event will demonstrate how enhanced support for cities – including technical assistance, capacity development, increased access to finance and active leadership by national governments and MDBs – can significantly enhance and accelerate climate action in cities. NCE-OECD Joint Event on Climate and Growth
The latest OECD-UN Environment-World Bank Group report, Financing Climate Futures: Rethinking Infrastructure, documents that only nine out of the 180 signatories to the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change have submitted to the UNFCCC their long-term low-carbon strategies for 2050. With emissions on the rise again, governments need to focus on implementing a low-carbon model and stop investing in carbon-intensive infrastructure. This event will highlight key findings of the 2018 NCE and OECD reports, with a focus on the macroeconomic aspects of low-carbon development, just transition methods, and financial sustainability.

Long-term Strategy in Brazil

Raising Ambition Through Long-Term Strategies
The Paris Agreement invites countries to release their “long-term, low-greenhouse-gas-emissions development strategies” by 2020. To date, only six countries have communicated official strategies to the UNFCCC which detail plans for to meet development goals and reduce emissions between now and 2050. This event will profile the importance of long-term strategies for providing a clear signal to the world that limiting warming to well below 2C is achievable, and that all countries are committed to doing it. This is a time for governments to signal their intent to develop ambitious long-term strategies ahead of the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in 2019,.

Launch of the South Africa Biennial Update Report Explorer
The South Africa Biennial Update Report Explorer offers open data, visualizations and analysis to gather insights on South Africa’s climate progress.
